Judging the windIt is in every kite flyer's best interest to learn to recognize the signs of good kite flying conditions, which is fortunately very easy to do! The Beaufort Wind Scale was originally developed to help mariners estimate the wind while at sea, but has been modified by the kite flying community to help kite flyers recognize good flying conditions on land. Beaufort Wind ScaleUse this scale to judge the wind conditions. The best kite flying winds are typically in the 4 to 20 mph range. Flying kites in winds above 25 mph can be dangerous and will break your kite! ![]() |
